  1. hyperlinkarchive.neocities.org

Neocities first started to use IPFS around August 2017 when Kyle Drake published a new post on the Neocities Blog entitled IPFS DNS Support, where he talks about how "most of the 140,000+ sites that have a neocities.org subdomain can now be accessed through IPFS via DNS", ...
    • IPFS DNS Support - Neocities

Continuing down this adoption path, I'm happy to announce that Neocities now has support for IPFS DNS records! That means that most of the 140,000+ sites that have a neocities.org subdomain can now be accessed through IPFS via DNS. You can see it in action at https: ...

    • HTTP is obsolete. It's time for the Distributed Web - Neocities

When another IPFS node chooses to host a site from Neocities, that version of the site will continue to be available, even if Neocities shuts down or stops hosting it. The more IPFS nodes seed Neocities sites, the more available (and redundant) Neocities sites become. And the less centrally dependent the sites are on us to continue existing.

    • IPFS & Neocities - netcat

IPFS & Neocities Fri 01 March 2019 Futurenet IPFS / IPNS / neocities / Web 3.0 One of the major things that made me want to support neocities is that one of the founders is a big supporter of Web 3.0 and web decentralization.

  4. docs.ipfs.tech

IPFS gained usage in the Ethereum (opens new window) and wider blockchain communities. In September 2015, Neocities (opens new window) became the first major site to implement IPFS in production (opens new window). The work done in Seattle and the lessons learned working with Neocities culminated in the 0.4.0 release of Kubo in April 2016.
  5. All you need to do is download the IPFS daemon (OSX/Linux only for now), and run the following command in your terminal: $ ipfs pin add -r THE_IPFS_HASH_FOR_YOUR_SITE" "THE_IPFS_HASH_FOR_YOUR_SITE"? I don't even have a neocity site, I just want to look at one through my IPFS. Do I need to enter the hash of any neocity site?
  6. DNS for Neocities websites still include DNSLink information for IPFS. Their IPFS test site still works but every other site including their blog post announcing DNSLink support or Snake don't work (no nodes hosting it). Have they removed IPFS support? or at least disabled all their nodes?
  7. If IPFS functionality is broken without any plans for repair, please disable IPFS archiving for Neocities websites (to remove dnslink record to IPFS on all domains). This has been reported to Neocities tech support somewhere in August 2019, as well as to @kyledrake directly over email, without any reply.
